God Is Musical
Zephaniah 3:17 “The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.”
It was my first year in itinerant evangelism. My wife and I were heading out west to preach in a few churches in Utah. On the way, we stopped at a church in Colorado for a church service. It just so happened that the guest preacher at the church was Frank Garlock (Majesty Music). As I mention in various articles, I have been in music nearly all of my life, but what Dr. Garlock revealed from Scripture that service opened my eyes to how musical God is.
Did you see in Zephaniah 3:17 how God will sing over His children? What a thought! No voice in the universe could compare to the perfection, power, and love of God’s voice. Oh, but there’s more!
After the famous Last Supper of Jesus, Jesus and his disciples sang together.
Matthew 26:30 and Mark 14:26 both read, “And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.”
How wonderful it would have been to see, touch, and hear our blessed Savior! And although we cannot hear Jesus’ earthly voice, every saved saint will hear our precious Savior’s Heavenly voice in glory!
Hebrews 2:12 “Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee.” This passage in Hebrews is a quotation of Psalm 22:22 which was a prophecy of Jesus. Jesus’ brethren are the saved. Jesus is not ashamed to call us His brothers and sisters (Heb.2:11). In fact, Jesus will stand in the midst of us nobodies in Heaven and join together with us in song in praising God!
So, before we get started in our discussions on “Music in the Home”, it is important for you to learn what I learned a number of years ago from Dr. Garlock’s insightful sermon: that God and Jesus are musical.
